Buffy and Riley bump into each other in the halls and Riley asks her if she's given any more thought to his picnic invitation. She looks confused until he realises that he hasn't actually asked her yet, only rehearsed it in his head. He tells her that she is beautiful and she accepts his invitation.

That evening, Buffy and Willow are patrolling in the cemetery and Buffy is telling her friend about Riley's invitation and how strong his arms are. She also tells her that she's had enough of the bad-boy boyfriend, she wants someone nice. Willow tells her to get away before it is too late.

Giles has a houseguest. Spike is shackeld and chained to Giles's bathroom unable to move and having to suffer the indignanty of having to drink pigs blood in a 'Kiss the Librarian' mug through a straw. Buffy is trying to get information about the Initiative out of him and he's been extremely unhelpful. Buffy taunts him with her exposed neck, and Giles's leaves them to it, felling exasperated. Willow is in his living room, going through she spell books. She's found a truth spell and suggests using it. Gile sis annoyed with himself for not thinking of it until Willow points out that he's had his hands full with the 'undead English Patient'.

Willow geos around to Oz's house, to be with his stuff and is distraught to find that he's been back and emptied his room. She finally begins to realise that he isn't coming back. She spots Buffy and Riley having their picnic in the park and doesn't want to disturb them, but Riley invite her to sit with them. She does and her gloom settles over them all.

Giles has had enough of Spike and phones Willow to get her to get the ingredients for the truth spell.

Willow, Buffy, xander and Anya go to the Bronze. The latter three worriedly discuss Willow while she 'Xanderdances' without a care in the world. When she knocks over her hidden beer bottle they realise that she is very drunk. Xander tells her to go home, and she is very rude to him. Buffy draggs her home, telling her that she'll be gald she did in the morning when she still has a friend.

Later that night, Willow wakes up. Checking that Buffy is still asleep she creeps out of bed and gets some spell making equipment out of her trunk. She silently creeps out of the room to the communal bathroom where she sets up a circle of candles and performs a spell that will make whatever she wills happen.

Willow experiments with her spell and finds out to her sadness that it didn't work. Giles drops around to see why she didn't come to perform the spell, saying that its very unlike her to shirk her duty. Willow say that she wasn't shirking, she got the ingredients, just forgot to actually do it. She tells Giles that it feel like everyone is pressuring her and she can't live up to their expectations. Giles tries to brush her worries aside, annoying her. She tells him that he can't see anything and Giles leaves her to her anger.

Giles goes back to his and tries to perform the spell on his own, however, he's having trouble reading the book. Spike tells him not to do the spell in case it goes wrong, he doens't wnat to end up a beetle or something. Giles pulls his handkerchief out of his pocket, dropping the key for Spikes chains. Spike covertly gets it and frees himself, grabbing his coat and legging it out of the house.

Willow is complaining to Buffy that she's a terrible witch, and says that Any could tap into powers that she cabn't even imagine. She makes a flippent comment about the rat-witch and her eyes glow and Amy, scurrying on Willow's bed becomes human again a look of happy surprise on her face. Then Willow, not noticing says something else, changing her back again. Giles calls and Buffy gets ready to go and find Spike. She apologises to Willow for having to rush off, but Spike has to be caught. Willow is upset that Buffy is abandoning her and says that she'll find Spike in like two seconds

Buffy finds Spike in like two seconds, both of them a little confused. Buffy thought it would take a little longer. Spike thinks he's found where he escaped form the Initiative but can't find the entrance. Buffy takes him back to Giles's asking the ex-Watcher if it's okay to kill the pesky vamp.

Willow goes to moan at Xander, who takes it graciously, trying to valm his friend down. Unfortunately, it doesn't work and Willow says that Spike and Buffy spend so much time together they should get married.

Over at Giles's, Giles comes out of the bathroom to find Spike on one knee and Buffy accepting his proposal of marriage.

Xander tries to console Willow, but she starts on his luck in love, the praying Mantis, the Mummy and now demon Anya. She tells him that he is a demon magnet, her eyes glow again, her will has been done.

While Buffy and Spike get all lovey-dovey, Giles calls Willow for help, but there's no one there. Then Giles goes totally blind. Buffy is all concerned and offers to go to the magic shop to get supplies to make him well again. She wants Giles to give her away at her wedding and he can't do it if he's blind. Spike starts to go through the magic books to see if there is a spell.

Buffy is coming out of the magic shop when she notices a bridal gown in the window of the shop next door. She looks at it and doesn['t notice Riley come up behind her. She tells him that she's getting married and he's a little angry about it, because he thought she was single. he goes off in a huff, leaving Buffy upset that everyone is poo-poohing her big day.

Anya has gone round to Xander's and their getting all romantic when a demon bursts in. Anya recognises it and tells Xande to drown it to kill it. It despatched, another tries to break in through the basement window. they decide to make a hasty exit and run for Giles's house, losing the demons that were chasing them.

When they get there they learn that Giles has gone blind and that Buffy's engaged. When they start getting smoochy, Xander pleads to become blind too, so not to see the horror before him. Xander makes the connection between Spike and Buffy getting enagaged and what Willow said to him. They decide to find Willow before anything really bad happens.

Willow goes into her room and is met by D'Hoffryn (the demon who made Anya a demon) he takes her through a portal to his plane of existance. He is impressed by the havoc her spell has caused and wants her to become a vengence demon.

The others rush back to the dorm room and find only burnt carpet. Anya recognises it as a portal and quickly explains about D'Hoffryn. Anya says she knows of a way to stop D'Hoffryn and they go to a crypt in the cemetery. Unfortunately, the demons that were chasing Xander spot him and chase after them, they try to barr the entrance and keep the demons out while Anya performs the summoning spell, although she has forgotten some of the words.

Willow says that she doesn't want to become a vengence demon and when she sees her friends in trouble she wants to go back and help them. D'Hoffryn is dissapointed but lets her return. Before she goes, he gives her a talisman and tells her that if she ever wants to call him to just chant.

Things are looking grim in the crypt. Xander and Anya are trying to fight the demons while Buffy and Spike start smooching. Willow appears back in the crypt and chants two lines to close down the spell. The demons disappear and Spike and Buffy realise, to their disgust, that they are kissing.

They end up back at Giles again, where he is complaining that Willow didn't give him 20/20 vision. Spike can't get the taste of Slayer out of his mouth and Willow is baking guilt cookies to try and apologise to everyone. Buffy suggests a forgetting spell might be in order. She realises what she said to Riley and is distraught. What can she do to try and explain that away?

The next day she catches up with Riley, her story perfected. She tells him that she saw the look on his face when he saw her looking at the dresses and wanted to pull his leg a little. he seems to accept it, saying that he has a lot to learn about Buffy. She just smiles.
