Season Four
Pangs
|
Buffy tracks down and dusts one of the on-campus vampires, but feels that she is being watched. Unable to place the uncomfortable feeling she returns back to the main part of the campus. Once she is gone, Angel shows himself. he had been hiding behind some bushes, keeping an eye on his ex-girlfriend. The next day Anya, Buffy and Willow are watching the groundbreaking cermeony for the new campus Anthropology centre. The girls are only there to lend support to Xander, who is one of the construction workers (his crappy job of the week). Anya however, is getting impatient, she wants to see her boyfriend rippling and imagines having sex with him, much to Buffy and Willow's amusement. Buffy reckons Xander looks very Village People-y. While the ceremony is taking place and Anya is otherwise engaged, Willow and Buffy discuss thanksgiving and what it means. Buffy reminises about thanksgivings when she was little while Willow 'channels her mom' and says that thanksgiving is bad. Buffy says that as her mom is out of town she's going to make thanksgiving herself and invite all her friends over for the meal, because that is the meaning of the holiday. Once the ceremoney is over Xander starts to dig (much to Anya's pleasure) but Xander ends up plunging through the ground into a submerged building. (The old Sunnydale Mission which disappeared in and Earthquake in the 1800's, much like the Master's Church). Luckily Xander isn't hurt. That night, the pitiful sight that is Spike is seen running through the woods near the campus. He's all wrapped up in a balnket and his inability to eat is taking a toll on him. Riley's initiative team are on his trail, but Spike is somehow managing to stay one step ahead. On the other side of town, Anya arrives at Xander's to find him getting ready for work. But he is very obviously sick, all sweaty and clammy skinned. Anya immediately starts to take care of him, getting him undressed and when Xander worries that she might get sick too she tells him that she doesn't care and that they can die together. Xander thinks he's has a stange girlfriend. Back at the Old Mission a green fog rises out of the earth and out of the mission to the old Cultural centre. It surrounds some Native American weaponry and when it touches a spear the fog solidifies into a Native American who kills the curator and cuts off her ear. Later, once the news is out on the murder, Buffy and Willow sneak into to do some investigation of their own and ponder why someone would want to cut the curator's ear off. They discover that the spear (a Chumash spear) is missing and realise they have a probable murder weapon. Buffy goes to relay the information to Giles while trying to plan her thanksgiving dinner (which she is having at Giles to save on her doing the washing up. She tells him that as he is British he has to host it). Giles tells her that the Chumash Indians are a local tribe which could have some significance. he agrees to do some research and Buffy goes on patrol. Once she's gone, Ange comes out of a room by the kitchen. Him and Giles talk aboout Buffy. Giles doesn't understand why Angel is still watching out for her. Angel replies that Giles still does it and that he doens't want Buffy to ever find out. Buffy meets up with Willow and they are walking through Sunnydale centre when they bump into Riley, Willow (very undiscreetly) makes herself scare to leave them alone. Buffy invites Riley to her dinner, but Riley already has plans to go back to his folks in Iowa. Willow is about to buy herslef something to drink when she gets pulled into a dark corner by Angel, she is about to scream out when he clmaps his hand over her mouth. He convinces her that he isn't evil, and that he's here to keep an eye on Buffy. he asks her who Riley is. Spike, in desperation, goes back to Harmony to get something to eat, but just gets beaten up on instead. She threatens to stake him so he makes a hasty exit. Buffy goes to see Father Gabriel, a Catholic Priest, whose family lived in Sunnydale around the time of the old mission. When she gets to the church it seems deserted, but she goes out the back and sees the good father being hung by the Native American spirit. She tries to fight it but the spirit is too strong and tells her that he is there to right the wrongs committed by the white people. He then runs off, leaving Buffy standing there. Buffy goes back to report to Giles and Willow turns up with a stack of research and frozen peas for the meal. Buffy compains that they're going to be mushy, Giles says that he likes mushy peas. Willow eventually gets a word in edgeways and tells them that the Chumash were a peaceful tribe until the white man came and started to kill them. She adds that cutting off a persons ear is a way to prove that a kill was successful. Buffy goes into the kitchen to work on her meal and while she is out of earshot, Giles and Willow discuss Angel and how he's not being so stealthy. Anya and a very sick Xander turn up on Giles's door step and a heavy research session gets underway. Willow finds out that the indians were given some horrible diseases like smallpox and syphillis and determines that the spirits have given Xander syphillis because he was the person who freed there spirits. Anya doesn't help by telling Xander that he'll become blind and insane from the illness. There's another bang on the door. Buffy goes to answer it but there's no one there, until Spike, with only a blanket to stop him burning. He wants Buffy to help him, when she has no (and Giles agrees) he turns to Willow for help, but help isn't forthcoming form there either until she grudgingly tells everyone that he can't bite or anything. He ends up bring very securely tied to a chair, just in case. Everyone begins to argue about what they're going to do to stop the spirit. Willow doesn't want to kill him, but everyone else argues that that's the only way. Spike makes a few good points which Xander agrees with. While Willow, Anya and a weakened Xander go to find the Dean and warn him his life may be in trouble, the spirit calls forth more spirits to help him get revenge for his people. The Indian spirits find track Buffy down at Giles' and lays seige to the place, shooting anything that moves with arrows. Helplessly tied to a chair, all Spike can do is try to move out of the way as he gets hit with arrows, one only just missing his heart. Willow, Xander and Anya encounter Angel on their way back and they determine that the Chumash went after Buffy. Angel has to convince Xander that he's not evil and wonders why everyone is thinking that. Buffy tries to go for more weapons, but gets an arrow in the arm. Spike just looks like a pin cusion. After riding over on bicycles, Xander, Anya and Willow try to attack the Chumash spirits as best they can with shovels, plant pots and anything else that comes to hand. Angel shows up and helps them out. Buffy cuts one of the Chumash with his own knife, and reaches the conclusion that their own weapons can kill them. The spirit turns into a large black bear, which Spike desperately tries to get away from and ends up knocking the chair over. ("You made a bear, undo it! undo it!!") Buffy struggles with the bear and then stabs it. All the spirits disappear. The evenings excitement over, the gang settle down for dinner. Buffy is upset that it didn't go to plan. Xander says that it's like all his family get togethers - he's looking better already. Spike is still tied to his chair (but someone thoughtfully took the arrows out) and is complaining about wanting something to eat. Buffy says that it's just like the good old days and Xander agrees with her, especially with Angel being back. There is a deadly silence. oops. |
