Xander is trying to teach Anya poker with help from Willow but isn't having much success. Xander unveils his new business venture, selling health bars to the people of Sunnydale. Xander comments that it would have been nice if Buffy had come to make it a foursome, but Willow says that she's out with her spanking new boyfriend. Anya says that she enjoyed spanking and embarrasses Xander who quickly changes the subject by saying that he doesn't trust Riley or the Initiative.

Buffy is being tested on her Slaying skill by Walsh, who sent Buffy into the wood and then sent Riley's team in after her to track her down. It takes them 42 minutes to find Buffy and only 12 seconds for Buffy to deal with all of them. Riley is impressed even if Walsh outwardly isn't.

The next day Buffy and Willow are in the cafeteria talking about their nights, but Willow's doesn't really compare to Buffy's. Willow asks Buffy if she remembers that the gang have plans that night. buffy says that she hasn't forgotten and wouldn't miss it for the world.

Giles visits Spike at the crypt and gives the vampire the money he owes him for helping him when he was a demon. Spike makes it clear that he doesn't want any more help from the Scooby Gang.

Riley takes Buffy to see the Initiative and is impressed by how huge it is. Riley grins and says that he doesn't like to brag. Riley and Walsh give her the tour and is made a member of the team.

Tara gives Willow a magical crystal as a gift, but Willow won't accept it because it's a family heirloom. Tara suggests that they get together that evening, but Willow says that she's already got plans. A dejected Tara goes off to class.

Walsh goes into the secure research sectin of the lab and into room 314. She has a short conversation with her collegue, Dr. Angleman, before checking up on her special project, a half-man half-demon called Adam.

Willow, Xander and Anya are at the Bronze, Xander's selling his health bars to the people in the Bronze, explaining to an unsupportive Anya that if he makes money he can buy her pretty things. She becomes very supportive. Buffy finally shows up, an hour late, with Riley and a group of his friends in tow. Willow isn't pleased to have these unexpected guests and tells Buffy if she knew she could bring non-scoobies with her she would have. Anya doesn't like the Initiative (ex-demon issues) and drags Xander away to go and dance. Just then Buffy and the Initiative's pagers go off and they have to go back to HQ. Buffy apologises as she leaves.

Willow goes to Tara's and tells her that her plans kinda fell through. Tara is pleased to see her friend and lets her in.

Buffy and the commandos have been recalled to track down a Polgara demon, but Buffy asks a lot of questions wanting to know why they are tracking down this particular demon. it's obvious that Walsh and Angleman are not impressed with Buffy and Angleman sees her as a liability.

Forrest is also less than pleased with Buffy, who has taken his second-man spot, even though he has his own team. While they are hunting the Polgara demon they spot Spike and try and trap him. Spike eludes capture but is shot with a tracer bullet.

The demon attacks Riley and Buffy's team and Riley and Buffy fight the demon, well Buffy does anyway, Riley just gets thrown out of the way. Once they've captured the demon they head back to Riley's place to spend some - ahem - 'quality time' together. Unbeknown to them their lovemaking is being watched by Walsh through a hidden camera. (eugh)

Spike tries to escape the Initiative but they keep tracking him down. He goes to Giles's for help which isn't very forthcoming. Xander jokingly says that he's hurt that Spike doesn't want anything to do with them. Spike grudgingly gives up what is left of Giles's money to get them to help him.

Buffy wakes up and fearfully turns over, she is surprised to find Riley lying there looking at her. It's the first time someone has stayed in bed with her, and the first time they've not turned evil. They talk and when Buffy asks about 314, Walsh phones Riley and orders him to come in. Walsh talks with Angleman and they decide that Buffy should be removed, permamently. Angleman is operating on the Polgara demon, removing its arm to put on Adam.

Giles tries to remove the thing in Spike back, which Xander recognises as a tracer, but the Initiative is closing in and they don't have much time.

Buffy gets back to her dorm room and discovers Willow's bed has not been slept in. Willow comes in a couple of minutes later form her all-nighter at Tara's. Buffy is beeped by the Initiative and has to go again. Giles phones wanting Willow's help so she goes over there, gald to be of help.

At the HQ Walsh tells Buffy that they have a sighting in the sewers on the edge of town and Buffy is being sent to investigate. Walsh gives her a taser and a camera/microphone/heart monitor which will keep her in contect with Walsh at all times. Buffy goes to investigate and is met by two demons which is recognises as those being operated on by Angleman when she was given the tour. She realises - a little belatedly - that it's a trap, but a grille comes down trapping her with the two demons. She fires the tazer but it backfires, nearly shocking her. She calls out to Walsh, but she watches, cup of coffee in hand as Buffy fights them.

Riley is out on patrol trying to track down Hostile 17 (Spike). Willow performs an ionising spell, which will block the signal form the tracer hopefully long enough for Giles to get it out of Spike. An amusing side-effect of the spell is the gangs hair standing on end. Giles manages to get it out just as the spell runs out and Xander flushes it down the toilet.

Out on the street, the Initiative are tracking the tracer. it is coming towards them at speed but they can't see it (very Aliens). They realise that it's been flushed and Hostile 17 has escaped them again.

Buffy is still fighting the demons and manages to electrocute one of them with the faulty taser. Walsh watches as the camera falls to the ground and the heart monitor flatlines, there is no visible movement. Buffy's been killed.

When Riley returns to the headquarters he is told by Walsh that Buffy went off on her own to fihgt some demons, saying that she didn't need any help form the Initiative. Riley looks shocked especially when the camera picture moved and brings a very brassed-off Slayer into view. Buffy tells Walsh that her attmepts to get her killed didn't work. She obviously doesn't know what a Slayer is made of. Riley watches this ipassively and wothout a word turns and walks off ignoring Walsh's orders to come back.

The gang are all sitting around in Giles's living room discussing the Initiative when Buffy walks in and tells then that Walsh tried to kill her. The Initiative can't be trusted and everyone is at risk from them.

Walsh goes into room 314 and talks to the comatose Adam, telling him that he will be the one to sort out the little bitch who's put the Initiative at risk. An arm from the Pologara demon has been attached to him. The Initiative have created their own Frankenstein's Monster. She turns her back on Adam to rant about Buffy and is surprised when she is skewered. She says Adam's name before falling to the ground. Adam is standing behind her, the skewer is the spike from the Polgara demon's arm. He looks at Walsh and says 'Mommy'.
