Buffy's Diaries - Season 4 - The Harsh Light Of Day

Season Four

The Harsh Light Of Day

The Dingoes are playing a gig at the Bronze and Buffy and Willow are there to cheer them on. Buffy is secretly watching Parker play pool in a mirror. Willow says that its a plus that he's got a reflection and all. When the Dingoes finish their set, Oz gets ready to take Willow home and Parker offers to walk Buffy back to her room, because it's not safe to walk the streets of Sunndale at night.

Willow waits outside by Oz's van, waiting for Oz and Devon to finish loading it up when an old face comes up to say hi. It's Harmony from School (One of the Cordettes, Cordelia accused her of being a sheep) The two of them chat for a couple of minutes until Harmony reveals that she is a vampire and takes a bite out of Willow's neck. Oz, luckily, comes out of the Bronze and sees this and uses a cross to get Harmony away from his girlfriend.

Harmony is upset that they were nasty to her and tells them that she has a boyfriend now and that he'll sort them out for upsetting her.

Buffy and Parker walk back to the dorm with no nasty encounters. Parker notices the scar Buffy has on her neck (from when Angel bit her), flustered, Buffy tries to cover by saying she was attacked by a nasty puppy. Parker seems to accept this and asks her to go to a Frat party with him the next night.

Meanwhile, round at Giles' apartment....

Xander is helping Giles sort out his books and put them away in the right order. Xander is complaining about Giles' system. Giles explains that itis alphabetical order. Neither of them are prepared for Anya just walking in. Anya tells Giles that he should lock his door. Giles agrees, looking worried. Xander is a litle more relaxed about it and asks her where she's been all summer. Anya wants to know where their relationship is going. Xander wasn't even aware that they had a relationship and is a little confused by the whole conversation.

Parker walks Buffy back right to her door and they are interupted by the arrival of a bleeding Willow and Oz. Willow tries to tell Buffy that it was Harmony, who is now a vampire without actually saying the word and Buffy does eventually catch on telling Parker it was another nasty puppy and gets him out of the way. As soon as Parker leaves, Willow gets a little faint.

Inside their room, Oz is cleaning up the wound while Willow fills Buffy in on Harmony and her supposed boyfriend. Willow says that Harmony always used to say that she had a boyfriend but 'he went to another school' or 'you wouldn't know him'. Oz says that Devon went out with her for a little while but found Harmony too flakey.

Harmony is walking through some newly dug tunnels to see her boyfriend. He is doing some digging and when he turns around it turns out to be Spike! Him and another vampire are working on plans to break into an underground crypt. Harmony incesently annoys him and he shouts repeatedly at her. She complains about being stuck underground, she wants to go to a party. In the end Spike gives in just to get some peace.

As Hellmouth-coincidence would have it, the party that Harmony and Spike go to is the same one that Buffy and Parker are at and they end up bumping into each other. After a few 'polite' words, Buffy asks Spike if he's going out with Harmony because he lost a bet and Spike tries to do a runner. Buffy abondons Parker to go after him. She finds him outside the Frat house and they fight for a couple of minutes until Harmony comes up behind them and tells Buffy that Drusilla left him for a Fungus demon and that she'll be sorry that she ever messed with them once Spike gets the Gem of Amara. Spike, very cross that Harmony has blown their cover, drags her off into the night.

Xander is busy decorating his basement room with a huge glitter ball [I've got one too!] when Anya shows up. Xander's mum told her to go around the back and also told her to tell Xander to do the laundry. She carries on about the relationship stuff. Xander tries to change the subject by getting her a drink, but while his back is turned she slips out of her dress and when he turns back is naked. The juice box in Xander's hand says it all.

Buffy calls Giles to tell him about Spike's re-arrival in town and gets him to look up the Gem of Amara, Giles tells her it is the vampire equivalent of the Holy Grail. Giles then tels her to get some sleep and Buffy agrees, preentding to yawn down the phone, but instead she goes back to the party.

Back at Spike's lair, Harmony is annoying Spike again, but uses her wily charms to get him to like her again.

Back at Xander's Anya is explaining that the only way she is going to get over him is to have sex with him and that it is a shame that they have these interlocking bodies which they don't interlock. Xander is still a little shocked by it all.

Parker asks Buffy if Spike is an old boyfriend of hers. Once Buffy laugh's the incredulality out of her she explains that he isn't, but he shouldn't be at parties where there is drink. They dance and later they are chatting which leads to Buffy making the decision to go to bed with Parker.

The next morning, Buffy is horrified to wake up to an empty bed and is frantically searching for her clothes when Parker comes in, he's been out to get them coffee. Buffy is relieved that history isn't repeating itself and he tells her that he'll call her.

Back at Xander's Anya tells Xander that she's over him now and Xander says he's okay with that. Anya gets stroppy and storms out leaving Xander loking a bit confused.

Spike wakes up to find Harmony writing Spike loves Harmony on his back in lipstick. He tells her off and then goes back to work. Harmony pouts and tells Spike that he loves that tunnel more than her. Spike turns around and tells her that he loves syphyllis more than her. (ouch)

Buffy gets back to hers and finds Giles and Willow doing some research. Buffy gets all cagey on where she's been, although Willow knows and mouth's and gestures behind Giles' back. Giles has discovered that the Gem of Amara is real and that it is hidden in an underground crypt in Sunnydale. Once they've got rid of him, Willow wants to know how it went with Parker, details, but not diagrams, a blurry watercolour maybe. Buffy is feeling happy about it.

Spike finally gets into the crypt, but finding the gem is going to be a little bit difficult as the crypt is stuffed with jewelry. He thinks it's on a necklace and puts it on. Meanwhile Harmony is trying on stuff adn being annoying. Spike loses his rag and tries to stake her, but it doesn't kill her. He sees the ring she's wearing and after putting a cross to her head, figures out that it is the Gem of Amara and snatches it off her hand. He goes to have some fun, leaving Harmony there upset.

The gang (except Buffy) are all gathered at Giles' for a day of fun with books (Of which Giles' house is now full, now there is no library). Oz is going through Giles' vinyl collection and threatening to move in if Giles doesn't let him borrow some of them and Xander finds a TV. Giles is just as shallow as the rest of us. He turns to TV on and there is a news report about a huge sinkhole appearing in the middle of the highway. They come to the conclusion that it is where Spike is digging.

Buffy is searching the campus for Parker, he didn't phone and she catches him chatting up another girl. Parker basically tells Buffy that it was a one night stand and that it didn't mean anything. Buffy thinks it is her fault and blames herself walking off. Spike watches them.

When Buffy walks off he catches her up and they have a rather impressive fight. Spike wonders whether he'll freckle. Buffy stakes him, but instead of it dusting him it just tickles . . . in a good way. Xander shows up looking for Buffy and tries to help her but ends up getting thrown into a wall by Spike. Spike then turns to really nasty tactics, making very suggestive comments about her relationship with Parker. He then crosses the line by saying that Angel once told him that Buffy was only worth doing it with once. Buffy snaps and kicks Spike's butt into the middle of next week. She takes the ring off him and he makes a (smoking) run for the sewers.

Later, Buffy and the rest of the gang are at Giles'. Buffy wants Angel to have the ring. Oz is playing a gig in LA and offers to take it for her.

Buffy, Anya and Harmony end up all walking around the campus that night, each of them very depressed.
