At the Bronze, Cody, Xander, Willow and Oz are making plans for the upcoming homcoming dance. Buffy doesn't know whther she is going to go or not. Cordy realises that Scott hasn't asked Buffy to go yet, and bkurts it out just as Scott reaches the table. Scott asks whats going on and is rather forced into asking Buffy go as his date.

Buffy leaves early and goes to the mansion to see Angel. He is pacing up and down the room. Buffy brings him a present, a tub of blood (mmm), he's rahter hungry, but is too polite to have the blod while Buffy is there. She tells him that she's met someone else and that she's moving on with her life. She says that Scott is dependable and she likes him, but she'll help Angel get better, but just because she's his friend.

The next day at school, Scott searches for Buffy and finds her walking by the perimeter fence. He unceremoniously dumps her, claiming that she's too distant and walks off, leaving her standing there watching him walk off. In a nearby van, two Germans are watching her with through binoculars, feeding the images to a man in a Wheelchair. With the man is Mr. Trick. Trick points to Buffy and says that she is the target.

The yearbook photos are being taken today and Buffy doesn't know about them because she was away the day the announcement was given. Cordy offers to go to the library (where Buffy is training with Faith) to tell her, but gets sidetracked by her Homecoming preparations and forgets. In the library, Buffy is giving Faith a bit of a pummeling and they agree to go to the dance together. Willow wants Xander's advice on what she should wear for the dance so they agree to meet up later and go through Willow's clothes.

Meanwhile, Trick has assembled a group of mercenaries and killers to compete in SlayerFest '98, his competition to kill Buffy and Faith. The competitors are the Two Germans and the man in the Wheelchair, Gorch and his new vamp wife Candy, a woodsman and a spiky headed Demon.

Back at school Buffy is very very cross that Cordelia forgot to tell her that the photos where being done today. The two if them get into a hige argument in the middle of the cafeteria and Cordelia says that she'd like to see Buffy win the homecoming queen crown. Buffy sees it as a challenge and takes her up on her offer.

That Night, Xander is round at Willow's house helping her choose her clothes, while trying on the tux he borrowed from some richer relatives. Xander inquires to how far Willow has gone with Oz and Willow tells him off. When Willow throws the same question at him he tells her a gentleman never reveals his secrets. Willow coming out from behind the screen says that Xander's never been a gentleman. She is wearing a long blakc dress and Xander goes wow. She worries about not being able to dance, Xander tells her that it's not hard and shows her how to do it. The moment intensifies and they kiss. After a couple of moments they break away, shocked at what they have done. They blame it on the clothes ("It's a Clothes Fluke") and decide to deny it ever happened.

The next day Buffy is ready to take Cordy's crown from her and has drawn up battle plans. She presents her strategy to Willow, Xander and Oz and then discovers that they are already helping Cordy (Xander and Willow feel guilty about the kiss and Oz goes wherever Willow goes) Things start to go nasty as Cordy and Buffy resort to nasty tactics to get votes.

Mr Trick and the Slayerfest competitors are preparing for battle, each in ther own way, the spiky headed demon is practicing his knife throwing, the Woodsman is checking his nasty bear traps and the germans are checking their equipment.

back at School, Buffy corners a very guilty Willow in the hallway and persuades her to let her have a look at Cordy's vote database. Willow agrees because she feels very guilty for abandoning her best friend for Cordelia. Outside the school the two german twins are using listening equipment to spy on Buffy and Willow's conversation and hear their plans for hiring a limo. Buffy, still on the campagin trail discovers that Cordelia is bribing the voters with money, she faces off with Cordelia and another fight breaks out. Xander and Willow try to break it up but not before the two girls have called each other horrible names.

Willow and Xander call a crisis meeting to try and sort everything out. but whenever one of them is talking about Cordy and Buffy the other is worrying over their illicit kiss. They decide that they have to make Buffy and Cordy get along, no matter what.

the night of the dance. The limo comes to Buffy's house to pick her up and when she gets in she finds only Cordy sitting there. Cordy silently hands her a note which says that they have to sort out thier differences and the rest of the Scooby gang'll meet them at the dance. However, the german brothers are driving the limo and instead of taking them to the school they take them to a seculded spot in the forest. When they get out of the car they discover a tv and video sitting on a tree stump. The video starts up and Mr Trick appears on the screen welcoming them to SlayerFest and telling them that they won't be leaving the forest alive. Cordy protests, she isn't a slayer, she's a homecoming queen, but is cut off by a bullet. The pair plunge into the undergrowth.

The woodsman manages to trap himself in his own bear trap which gives Buffy enough time to quiz him on who else is after them. they start running again.

At the Dance Willow and Xander are watching the Dingoes playing a song that Oz wrote for her. They look very uncomfortable. Faith comes over to ask what is wrong but they say that everything is fine. Giles comes over looking for Buffy and complaining that there are probably fingers in the finger food. He asks where Buffy is and says there is danger, but then reveals that he's just joking. he doesn't get a laugh so he goes off leaving Xander and Willow to wallow in their guilt/misery.

Back in the woods, Cordy and Buffy stumble across a deserted cabin and take shelter in it. They even find weapons, a spatula and a gun. There is also a phone. Buffy calls the library and leaves a call for help on the answering machine. The spinky headed demon has tracked them down and leaps into the cabin through a window. Him and Buffy fight. The germans have also found them and they launch a missile through the window into the cabin. Buffy grabs Cordy and the jump through the window to escape, but the demon isn't so lucky and gets blown up. They decide to head for the school.

At the dance, Faith goes up to Scott and his date and starts to torment him asking if his nasty rash has cleared up yet. The girl leaves him standing there and Faith goes happily on her way, mission accomplished.

Buffy and Cordy reach the library and find the Gorches waiting for them. Lyle manages to knock Buffy out, but Cordy stakes Candy with her spatula. Lyle makes a tactical retreat.

Giles is tending to their cuts when they realise that the corsages have transmitters in them which explains how the germans could hunt them down.

Trick is taken by the Sunnydale PD to the Mayor. He makes a deal that trick couldn't possible refuse, and wouldn't refuse if he wants to stay alive.

The Germans arrive at the school to find Buffy and Cordy, they creep through the halls following the corsages. Buffy manages to get them to spilt up and sticks one of the transmitters to one of the germans backs using wet toilet roll and the two germans shoot each other through the wall.

Buffy and Cordy finally get to the dance, just as the Queen is being announced. it is revealed that for the first year it is a tie, and the crown goes to the other other contenders. Cordy and Buffy can't believe it. They turn around, ignoring all the glances at their clothes and walk out of the hall, rolling their eyes at what a waste of time it had been.
