Buffy's Diaries - Season 3 - Beauty and the Beasts

Season Three

Beauty and the Beasts
(a.k.a. All Men Are Beasts)

In the library on the night before the full moon, Willow is on Oz watch, reading extracts from 'Call of the Wild' the book her class is studying in English. Her words aren't soothing the savage beast though and Oz is busy throwing himself at the door to the bookcage trying to get out. Xander shows up to relieve Willow, (she has a term paper to do) and they chat about Oz and the fact the Willow is still trying to deal with 'Half Monty' Oz. Xander is scandalised and asks which half. Willow tells him to mind his own buisness and leaves Xander to watch Oz. Xander doesn't do much watching though and he lays down on the table and falls asleep.

Faith and Buffy are patrolling the cemetery and Faith is teasing Buffy about Scott, she warns the other Slayer that all men have beast in them, even the 'i-love-the-English-Patient' ones. Buffy tells Faith that she's going to take it slowly with Scott because her track record with men is terrible.

At school the next day, Buffy, Willow and Oz are found by Scott and his friends Pete and Debbie. Buffy mentions that she has to go to the school pyschologist, Mr Platt. Debbie mentions that she also has to go and see him because her Biology teacher thinks she has success problems. Oz offers to lend Debbie his Biology notes because she is flunking the class and we learn that Oz used to be a member of the Jazz marching band. Buffy kisses Scott goodbye and goes to see Mr Platt.

In the library Giles and Xander are having a little panic about the fact there was a murder in the woods last night. When Willow and Oz come in it is dicovered that the window in the bookcage has been left open so there is a possibility that oz was the murderer (not Oz-Oz, Wolf-Oz). It doesn't help that Xander fell asleep. Everyone, especialy Oz is horrified that Oz is a suspect.

Buffy goes to see mr Platt and tells him that she doesn't want to tell him about her life or be his friend, but she does manage to get some information over her big break-up with Angel out. Buffy goes back to the library afterwards to find everyone looking really unhappy. She reluctantly asks what is going on, and Cordy tactless as ever says that Oz killed someone.

Oz tries to leave, upset that he could have done such a terrible thing. Willow stops him leaving because it is almost sunset. After she locks him in he tells his girlfriend to get away from the door because he can feel the change starting. She doesn't take his brusque-ness well.

Buffy goes on partoll and spots a figure in the undrgrowth. She goes to fight it and discovers that it is Angel, but not the Angel she knew. They fight and she manages to knock him out. She takes him back to the mansion and finds some shackles there (Dru what did you use them for?) and ties him to the mantle of the fireplace. She tries to talk to him but he's nothing more than an animal. She discovers the scorchmark on the floor from Angel's reenty into the real world.

Willow, Xander and Cordy are doing crime at the morgue, examining the body of the dead victim. Xander and Cordy are very grossed out by the body, but Willow is all calm and collected, until she's finiahed, when she promptly faints.

Faith is on Oz watch, she is dancibg around the library to the music on her walkman when Buffy comes in. She tries to attract Faith's attention and is accidentally punched in the face by Faith. Buffy sends her hime so Faith goes to dust some vampires. Once she has gone, Buffy pulls out the card catalogue and does some research of her own.

The next morning Giles comes in and opens the cage go Oz can get dressed and finds Buffy curled up asleep, surrounded by books on the Demon Dimensions and Acathla. She tries to cover and tells him that she had a very vivid dream that Angel came back. Giles tells her that Angel would have been tortured for Centuries in the months he was down there and if he did survive he'd be nothing more than an anmial. However, Giles adds that he may or may not be a lost cause.

Willow arrives in the library complete with donuts just as Oz comes arouond. She tells them that the information she got wasn't conclusive, Buffy asks if it could have been a vampire attack. She suspects that Angel might have been the cause but doesn't want to say anything about him being back. At lunch, Buffy sits with Scott and his friends and is told off for having Jelly for lunch. Pete insults Scott's mom and Scott tells Buffy that these aren't even his friends, he's just paying them to act like his friends.

Buffy goes back to the mansion and finds Angel curled up in a ball. She moves to touch him and Angel goes for her. She runs out of the mansion.

Pete and Debbie sneak into a storeroom to make out and Pete is less than pleased to discover that Debbie has been pouring his potion away. Buffy goes to see Mr. Platt and tells him that she needs his help. She pours her heart out to him only to discover that he is very very dead. mauled in fact.

Pete yells at Debbie and transforms into a bug eyed, vein popping monster who punches Debbie across the room. before he needed the potion to change now he can do it on his own. he punches Debbie several times but when the rational part of himself realises what he's done he changes back and tries to apologise to his girlfriend. She hugs him and tells him that she forgives him.

Oz and the rest of the gang are very pleased to know that Oz wasn't the murderer and Buffy is secretly pleased to know that it wasn't Angel either. Now they have a killer to find and quickly before he strikes again.

Oz meets up with Debbie to give her his Biology notes. He notices her black eye and she tells him that she caught it on a door knob. he tells her that if she ever needs to talk Oz'll be there to listen.

Unbeknown to both of them Pete is watching their conversation and looks less than pleased. Oz goes back to the library and comes to the conclusion that Debbie is the link between the dead people which leads him neatly onto Pete. The gang go to find Pete while Oz locks himself in the cage.

The girls find Debbie in the locker room trying to cover her black eye. She won't talk to them but does tell them that Pete is to blame but it isn't his fault he can't help doing what he does. She bursts into tears, repeating over and over again that Pete loves her.

Angel manages to break free of thr mantlepiece and now the sun has set is free to roam Sunnydale.

Pete finds Oz int the bookcage and ignore's Oz's warnings to go away. Pete changes into the monster and pulls the door off it's hiinges before laying into Oz. The moon starts to rise and Oz changes into a much stronger werewolf, the rules have changed. Buffy and the others arrive but can't stop the fight. Buffy gets the tranquiliser gun, but when she shoots Debbie knocks it out of the way and Buffy ends up tranquilising Giles. He is not impressed. Pete runs out of the room closely followed by Oz. Buffy goes after Pete while Willow and Faith try to tranquilise wolf-Oz. Buffy tracks Pete down to the storage room but she is too late, Pete had already killed Debbie. Pete attacks her and is about to kill her too when she is saved herself. Angel comes smashing in through the door and using his chains breaks Pete's neck. His game face changes back and he looks at Buffy for the longest time. He goes over to her and utter's a single word, 'Buffy'. It seems he can be redeemed after all.

Meanwhile Faith and Willow are chasing Oz and manage to tranquilise him before he hurts anyone.

The next day the gang talk about pete and the amount of differnt rumours circulating the school. Cordelia can't believe the truth when she hears it and moans that for the rest of the day she'll be thinking serious thoughts. Buffy spots Scott sitting by himself and goes over to talk to him. She offers support, but he doesn't know how to deal with the sudden loss of his two friends.

Buffy goes back to the mansion and watching Angel, no longer shackled, as he sleeps. Not a peaceful sleep though, he seems to be having a nightmare.
