Buffy's Diaries - Season 2 - Passion

Season Two

Passion

Buffy wakes up one morning to find a hand-drawn picture of herself sleeping on her pillow. There's only one person it could have been from . . .Angel. It makes it quite obvious to Buffy that Angel has been in her room and as he has an open invitation to her house, he could come back at any time.

She begs Giles to find her a spell which would revoke his invitation. A doubly inportant request as he has open access to Willow's house as well (And Cordy's car, but that's alright as she's swapped it with her grandma.)

Meanwhile, Willow is in Jenny's Computer class. At the end of the lesson, Jenny calls Willow over and tell her that she might be late for their next class and could Willow possibly run the class until she gets there. Willow is very excited by this invitation, but her happiness is short lived as Buffy and Giles arrive and Buffy drags Willow away ("But I have to be nice, she's the teacher." - Willow)

This leaves Giles with Jenny. She tries to apologise to him, but he won't accept it, because he feels so betrayed. then she accidentally tells him that she loves him, which melts his icy-heart a little, but he tells her that it's Buffy she should be apologising to.

Jenny gives Giles one of her witchcraft books which should help with the Angelus problem. (It has a spell to revoke Angel's invitation)

Jenny is a busy bunny though, going to a new age shop to buy a magic orb which is used to catch souls. This is her ultimate apology to Buffy. She is translating the spell to return Angel's soul back to his body.

Angel is also busy, trying to convince Joyce to let him see Buffy, and when she won't let him, let's 'slip' that him and Buffy made love. which led to an awkward conversation between mother and daughter.

Jenny is still working on her 'apology' at the school and finally translates the spell. she makes two copies, one on a yellow disk and a paper copy. Unfortunately, Drusilla had a vision that this would happen which prompts Angelus to go to the school and try to stop it. He smashes up Jenny's computer, which sets on fire and burns the paper copy. Jenny tries to run for it, but is caught by Angelus who brutally kills her (Which was edited out of the Sky showing). Jenny Calendar RIP.

Giles comes home and finds his house all romnantically lit with candles and roses and a note which reads 'upstairs'. Grinning like a hormonal schoolkid he goes upsatirs into his bedroom and finds a dead Jenny sprawled across his bed.

Not at all happy about this, Giles gets his best weapons and goes to the factory where the vampires are holed-up.

Buffy, xander, Cordy and Willow go round to his house to try and comfort him, but find him and his weapons gone. After a short conversation which involves Xander saying that he's hated Angel for longer than the others and he feels that Giles is very justified to kill Angel, Buffy goes to save the day.

He firebombs it and gives Angelus a real battering with a pole of wood which is on fire. However, as is alaways the case Angelus gets the upper hand and is about to kill Giles when Buffy turns up to kick his ass and save Giles, although she has to cut it short to save a dazed Giles from the fire.

When she gets him outside he screams bad things at her and tries to go back in but Buffy manages to (literally) knock some sense into him

Our View

Lots of excitement in ths episode. Shame bout Jenny but she shouldn't have been in school at night on her own. Willow is so sweet, she'd make a good teacher.

Our Score - 9

The Professional View

Not the master piece that it could have been, because it spends half the epsiode building up to a signposted climax, but Passion contains a dramatic intensity that is frequently overpowering. Another example of how adult a series like Buffy can be. Frequently stunning direction.
