Cartona, Italy 1418: A demon called Moloch the Corrupter is controlling the mind of a man staniding before him and snaps his neck. Cut to a group of monks who are perfroming a spell to trap Moloch in a book. As the spell takes effect, Moloch is slowly sucked into the book, and words appear on the page. The book is placed in a wooden chest and sealed. Back in present day Sunnydale, Buffy opens the box and takes the book out. Jenny Calendar, the school's computer science teacher is helping Giles scan his books into the school's computer network. Also helping are Willow and two boys from Willow's computer class. Moloch's book is placed on Willow's pile. Everyone else leaves, but Willow stays late to scan a few more books. One of those books is Moloch's, and if the pages of his book are read he will be set free. When Willow turns away from the computer, 'Where am I?' appears on the monitor. Later that week, Buffy notices Willow's strange behaviour. Willow tells Buffy that she's met this guy called Malcolm on the Internet. Buffy is worried about the fact that Willow seems so taken by someone she's never met. She goes to one of the guys who helped scan the books in for help, but he tells her to leave Willow alone. Buffy takes this weird behaviour as a hint to find out what he's been up to. She trails him to a large computer research building, which is supposed to be closed down. However, the place is crawling with people. Buffy and Xander decide to some some researching of there own on this place. In the computer Lab, Willow is chatting to Malcolm, but quickly ends their conversation when he memtions that Buffy was expelled from her old school. Willow had never told him this. When Buffy turns up at the lab looking for Willow, willow is gone but Dave is there. He tells her that Willow is waiting for her in the girls locker room. Fritz (the other guy from the scanning group) is rigging a trap by putting live wire in the showers. he turns on the water just as Buffy enters. Dave rushes in to warn her but it is too late and Buffy steps in the electrified water and is thrown across the room. Dave sneaks away and goes back to the computer lab where he tells Moloch that he won't do his dirty work any longer, but Moloch responds by writing a suicide note. Fritz is hiding in the shadows, more than willing to do Moloch's dirty work. Buffy walks into the lab, looking for Dave and finds his body hanging from the ceiling and his suicide note nearby. back in the Library, Giles makes the conncetion between the book with the blank pages and Moloch and Buffy Moloch with Malcolm. She and Xander go to Willow's recue but they are too late. Fritz had kidnapped her and taking her to the research facility. Moloch now has a robotic form, made for him by his followers. he casually killed Fritz and is decides to kill Willow when she refuses to join his followers. But Buffy and Xander arrive just in time to save her. Buffy and Moloch end up fighting. Back in the Library, Giles has swollowed his technophobic pride and asks Jenny for help in trapping Moloch again. She reveals her knowledge of the strange things happening around Sunnydale and she's a technopagan. Giles and Jenny form a mystic circle (well it's really more of a line) and they get to work. Giles speaks out the words of the rite while Jenny types them into the computer. The spell works, to a degree. Moloch, instead of being trapped inside his book is trapped in his robot body. It infuriates Moloch and attacks Buffy in a rage. Willow saves her friend by hitting Moloch over the head with a fire extinguisher. He bats her aside and Buffy tricks him into hitting a fuse box. He short circiuts and blows up. the Slayer has saved the day again, and they have a new ally, in the shape of Jenny Calendar.
