Buffy's Diaries - Season 1 - Out of Sight Out of Mind (aka Invisible Girl

Season One

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

The race is on to br crowned May Queen at Sunnydale High's next dance. Cordelia, naturally is campaigning to be crowned, and seems to be doing quite well. She already had a prospective date for the dance, a jock named Mitch. However, he is mysteriously clubbed over the head with a baseball bat. Not a strange occurence you think? Wrong. The bat moved on its own, as if it was being wielded by an invisible person...

Later on in the day, Harmony, a member of Cordelia's 'court' falls down a flight of stairs. it looked as if she tripped over her own feet but Harmony swears that she was pushed. But there was no one there...

The evidence points to an invibile person, and Buffy discovers that someone has been living in the ceilings of Sunnydale High. They had made themselves a little 'nest' above the music room, which explained the ghostly music comeing form it. When Buffy explores in the ceilings she is attacked by an invisible person.

A little research reveals that the invisible person is a girl called Marcie Ross. No one remembers her though, not even Xander and Willow. But Marcie did go to the school and even had a year book signed by most of the school. Willow and Xander had signed it, with the phases "Have a great Summer" (Willow) and have a nice Summer (Xander), just like everyone else.

It transpires that Marcie became invisible because that was how the whoe school perceived her. Having been treated the worst by Cordelia and her 'court' (something Buffy, Xander and Willow understand), Marcie decided avenge her situation by making life Hell for Cordelia and the 'court'. She planned to kidnap Cordelia and on the night of the May Queen Dance and give her a face that no one would ever forget...

Marcie does kidnap Cordelia, and when Cordy comes round she finds herself tied to one of the thrones in the Bronze, along with Buffy. Buffy manages to escape and just manages to prevent Marcie from ruining Cordy's face. (Although Marcie does manage to slash Cordelia's cheek. While this is going on, Marcie also practically killed Xander,Giles and Willow by locking them in a room in the school and turning the gas on. Angel, luckily saves them.

While Buffy is untying Cordelia, a pair of 'FBI' agents walk in the bronze to take Marcie away.

They take her to a 'school' where all the pupils are invisible like her. When Marcie is escorted into one of the classrooms she is given a textbook. She is told to open it to Chapter 11: Assassination and Infiltration. Marcie finds this very cool. And so she begins her new life.

Our View
A good episode, we like marcie's new school. A reflection on how thoughtlessly people are treated in school. Cordy is now an unwilling part of the scooby gang (although she doesn't quite realise it). Cordy's speech about being Queen is her right was very funny.
Our Score - 5

The Professional View
An intriguing and mysterious opening gives way to a thoroughly slovenly mid-section - possibly the worst segment of Buffy yet, full of bad jokes, and no tension - before this very uneven epsiode comes to a juddering climax.
Their Score - 6
