What has gone before...
Lindsey is the most promising young lawyer at Wolfram and Hart. With high profile cases and clients, it looks like he can do no wrong. But this wasn't always the case.
He came from a very poor family, living together in a tiny room woth his brothers and sisters. His father ran out on them and his mother did the best she could for her children. Lindsey didn't want to live the life his mother did and worked hard through school, earning himself a law scholarship. It was then that he was spotted by one of the partners of Wolfram and Hart, Holland. Holland took the young and angry Lindsey under his wing and brought him to the law firm where he has been winning cases ever since.
The Present...
All was going well until Angel came to town and started poking his nose into the affairs of Russell Winters, one of Lindsey's clients. Russell was a vampire that befriended young actresses before drinking them dry. When he murdered the girl in one of Doyle's visions and got his claws into Cordelia Angel decided to act by first fighting Russell then pushing him out of a window into the sunlight.
From that moment on, Angel was an enemy of Wolfram and Hart. Lindsey got involved in Angel's life again when Faith came into town. Surely a Vampire Slayer would rid them of their little problem? But it was not to be and when Faith joined Angel, Lindsey went to Kate Lockley and ratted on Angel.
Another one of Lindsey's clients caused trouble for Angel when she murdered a man in front of him. She was a blind murderess who blinded herself when she was 21 to help her reach enlightenment. Lindsey, however, was very unsettled by her and horrified by her next assignment (to kill three very young children with the same abilities as her). Lindsey had been feeling disillusioned by the law firm for some time now. He hadn't gone into law for the same reasons as Wolfram and Hart and wanted out.
He went to the only person he could think of who would help him
Angel.
Strangely enough, Angel didn't believe that Lindsey really wanted to be free of the law firm and it took the promise of files containing all the information on the 'clients' of the firm for Angel to help him. The plan was simple, get in, get down to the vaults and leave a securtiy pass for Angel, then distract security long enough for Angel to get in and out with the files.
However, it all went wrong and the building was locked down before Lindsey could escape. The firm employes mind readers to ferret out any disloyalty by its employees and they discovered Lindsey's little bit of treason towards them. Luckily it was Holland, his mentor that found out and he gave Lindsey the chance to go away and think over his options for a few days before deciding that he wanted out of the firm.
Lindsey came to the decision that he wanted to be as far away from Wolfram and Hart as possible and went back one last time to hand in his resignation. He found Holland packing up this things. Holland told him that he was 'moving upstairs' and added that everything he had now could be Lindsey's, the office, the power, the money. But if he walked out that door that would be it. Holland left Lindsey to mull over this ultimatum. Lindsey looked around the office, at the view, and then walked over to the doors. But instead of walking through them and out of the comany he closed them and sat behind his new desk. He sold his soul for 30 pieces of silver (As Welsey said)
Lindsey's next assignment was to prepare for the Rising, a ritual that was to be performed. However, the ritual was on the scroll that Angel stole and had to be gotten back. The demon raised to perform the rising, got the scroll back as well as severing Angel's ties with the Powers That Be and his friends, leaving him alone.
The night of the ritual cmae and all seemed to be going well until Angel burst in and fought the demon performing the ritual. Holland ordered Lindsey to finish the ritual (and showed off his good command of Latin). The ritual was completed and whatever they raised in the box was safely taken away, leaving Lindsey to face Angel.
Lindsey taunted Angel telling him that the Scroll fortold the vampire's death and that it fortold the loss of his friends. This was a very different man to the one who came into Angel's office little more than a week before. He also taunted Angel with the fact that he has the only thing that would save Cordelia from the visions and he was going to consign it to the flames. Angel acted quickly throwing the axe he was holding and severing Lindsey's hand at the wrist, saving the scroll. Angel told him not to believe everything he was fortold before walking out.
Now Lindsey wants nothing more than revenge on Angel and hopes that what was Risen in the box will do that for him. He wants nothing more than Angel's destruction.
