Angel's Jounral - Season 1 - Rm W/A Vu

Season One

Rm W/A Vu

At the office Cordelia is complaining about the fact she didn't get the role in a commercial to Doyle. She is so focused on her righteous-annoyance that she doesn't hear the phone ring and lets the machine pick up the message. It's Aura, one of Cordy's friends from High School. Cordelia is too distracted to work and decides to go home to mope.

Doyle asks Angel about Cordy's life in Sunnydale and Angel tells him about how she used to be one of the most popular girls in school.

Cordy goes back to her dump of an apartment. The light in the hallway isn't working, the water is coming out all brown and to top it off it is absolutely overrun with roaches. At the end of her tether she phones Doyle for help.

Doyle is about to answer the phone when he has an uninvited visitor, someone Doyle owns money to. And if Doyle doesn't pay up he'll die. Doyle manages to get away, but not before hurting his hand when the demon debt-collector traps it in a draw.

Cordelia, unable to get hold of Doyle goes to the home of the only other person she knows in LA - Angel. Angel was in the middle of taking a shower when Cordy shows up, but Cordy is so annoyed about her apartment that she doesn't notice, thrusting a pile of bags into his hands and moving in, leaving Angel standing there dripping.

The next morning a bedraggled Doyle lets himself into Angel's and finds Cordelia there, drying her hair after taking a shower. Angel comes in (in a dressing gown and boxers) complaining that Cordelia has got peanut butter all over his bed which lets Doyle jump to the wrong conclusions. When Cordy goes to get dressed Angel explains what's happening. When Cordy comes back in she tells Doyle that 'someone from his part of England' phoned for him yesterday and she gave him his address (which explains how Doyle got tracked down). Doyle spots Cordy's trophies and her charred high school diploma - Cordy tells him it was a rough ceremony (to say the least) Angel notices Doyle's injured hand and tricks him into thinking that someone is upstairs for him. When Doyle tries to do a runner Angel is waiting for him. Doyle explains what happened and Angel makes Doyle a deal. He will sort out Doyle's problem if he gets Cordy somewhere to live.

Doyle and Cordy go flat hunting, but everywhere that is in Cordy's price range are real dumps, owned by creepy landlords or part of a commune. Finally, Cordy gives in and lets Doyle phone his friend. Doyle actually manages to come up trumps, the apartment his friend recommended is absolutely gorgeous, light and airy and roach free. And best of all - it's cheap and rent-controlled.

Of course, nothing runs smoothly for someone from Sunnydale and that night Cordy is visited by the vengeful ghost who haunts the apartment. She's a powerful ghost as well lifting Cordy's bed into the air. Cordy pretends not to be scared - she is from Sunnydale after all - but is scared almost witless. The next morning Cordy pretends that nothing ever happened - she doesn't want to lose the apartment. She doesn't notice the old lady ghost staring angrily at her in the mirror and she tries to ignore the blowing wind and the moving furniture. Doyle and Angel show up, complete with a house warming present - a tiny cactus. Cordy tries to stop them coming in and discovers that even just saying 'when I get my new place you're totally invited' is enough to let a vampire in. The ghost also makes her presence known by incribing DIE in dripping blood on a wall. Doyle has to practically drag Cordy out, she doesn't want to lose her new home.

When they get back to the office, they do some research and discover that a woman called Maude Pearson (who owned and lived in the building) was killed there seemingly by her son who disappeared. Doyle goes shopping to get hold of all the stuff they need for an exorism, while Angel goes to see Kate to see if there are any police records.

Cordy is pacing the office when she gets a call from Angel telling her to meet him at her place. Cordy grabs her stuff and goes.

However, Angel calls the office a few minutes later as Doyle is coming in the door, Cordelia has gone but there is a message on the machine. They listen to Angel's voice tellig Cordy to meet her at the apartment. Angel didn't make the call. They both rush to get to the apartment.

Cordelia lets herself in and finds Maude waiting there for her. She speaks in Angel's voice and Cordy realises that she's been tricked. But it's getting sinister. Maude thinks that Cordelia (who she believes to be a small town common tramp) is one of her sons good-for-nothing girlfriends who wants to marry Dennis (her son) and take him away from her. As Maude talks the lamp crashes from the ceiling and the light cord wraps itself around Cordelia's neck like a noose. It pulls Cordelia into the air, strangling her.

Doyle and Angel get there to find poor Cordelia hanging there as Maude hurls abuse at her. They get her down and start preparing the ritual for the excorism. The ghost realises and tries to distract them by blowing a wind and throwing objects at them. Cordelia isn't much help, huddled on the floor in tears. Unable to complete the spell because Cordy is in no fit state to help they try to leave, but find Doyle's demon debt-collector and two henchmen waiting for them with guns.

Angel and Doyle fight the bad guys while Madue drags Cordelia into the bedroom where Maude hurls more abuse at her finishing off by calling her a bitch. Cordelia suddenly stops crying and goes very still. She looks up at Maude with an ice-cold stare and stands up. She looks down on Maude and tells her that yes she was a bitch, the biggest bitch in Sunnydale and starts to tell Maude off, yelling her through the closed door.

The wind and the flying objects stop and Doyle and Angel disposes of the two demons, their human friend having run off. Cordelia comes out of the bedroom and is walking past the wall she wants to get rid off when her eyes glaze over. She picks up a standing lamp and starts smashing the wall. She knocks the bricks away revealing a skeleton in the wall cavity.

There is a flashback. Maude doesn't want her son to leave him and to stop him going she has tied him up and bricked him up in the wall, leaving him there to die. Once the wall is completed, Maude has a heart attack and dies herself.

Back in the present a white light comes out of Dennis's corpse and forms an angry face. Maude begs her son not to hurt her, but he blasts through her destroying her.

Angel and Doyle chat, Angel doesn't like the way Doyle lives, but it's how Doyle wants to be. Angel tries to find out a little about Doyle's past, but Doyle stalls and says that he'll tell him one day.

Cordelia has settled into her new apartment and is on the phone to Aura telling her what a great time she's having in LA, she starts to tell Aura about her new roommate Dennis when a can of pop Cordy is drinking from starts to move. Cordy covers the phone and tells Dennis to stop messing around. he then switches on the TV and Cordy tells him off again. The apartment might still be haunted by Dennis seems a nice chap.
