Angel's Jounral - Season 1 - Lonely Hearts

Season One

Lonely Hearts

Doyle and Angel are at the office, but not much work is getting done. Doyle is asking Angel to put a good work in for him to Cordelia. Angel argues that he barely knows him to which Doyle replies that it will be easier for him to lie.

Cordelia arrives with a gift. She's been out and got some calling cards made for Angel Investigations. It has their phone number on them and a little angel design that neither Angel or Doyle recognise, thniking its a bird or something, much to Cordy's frustration.

Doyle suddenly has one of his visions. It's the first time Cordelia has seen one happen and it frightens her slightly, although she'd never admit it. The vision shows one of those stuck-in-the-80s singles bars but not the actual person in need so the three of them go to check it out and see if they can find someone in need.

Meanwhile at the bar, D'Oblique and woman (Sharon) meets a man, Kevin, both single and lonely and desperate to find someone. They get chatting and end up leaving the bar together.

Doyle, Angel and Cordelia turn up at the bar. Angel goes to talk to the bartender while Cordelia hands out their calling cards. Doyle has to stop her because Angel is a registered Private Investigator and the police wouldn't be too pleased with his vigilante tactics. Angel meets a lady called Kate and they have a very stilted conversation. They seem to have a *lot* in common. Cordelia is running into problems with her advertising of their agency. A smarmy guy thinks she's offering services of a *different* kind and accuses Doyle of being her pimp. Doyle takes offence at this and defends Cordelia's honour by starting a bar brawl which Angel has to help break up. The bartender kicks the smarmy guy and his friend out and apologises to the others. All the girls flock to Angel much to Doyle's annoyance. On girls starts to come onto Angel and he asks her if she needs help. She comes onto him, which he doesn't know how to take. Kate sees him chatting to her and leaves.

The next morning we see Sharon getting dressed, there is blood all over the bedcovers and Kevin is revealed to be rather very dead.

At the office it's Cordelia's turn to be net girl by searching the newsgroups for any mention of incidents at D'Oblique. (She's still a one finger typer though). They find out that the body of a regular was found in an alley, badly mulilated and eviscerated (yuck). Angel goes back to the bar, while Cordy and Doyle look though books on demons. They have a conversation where Cordelia says that she doesn't like demons and you can almost see Doyle's heart breaking. (she still doesn't know that Doyle is a demon).

Angel goes back to the club to try and find the killer and bumps into Kate outside the club. He tells her not to go in there because its dangerous and she tells him to go to Hell, Angel replies that he's been there and done that. Angel talks to the bartender again and finds out that Kevin has disappeared. He's not been seen since he went home with Sharon. Angel finds out who Sharon is and follows her home to try and prevent the next murder.

Angel gets to her apartment and finds her dead with blood everywhere. The guy she went home with is fine though, although he has a demon called a Borrower inside him. The two fight, but the guy gets away just as Kate shows up. She takes one look around the room and at Angel and jumps to the wrong conclusion. She pulls a gun on him and tells him that she is a dectective for the the LAPD and tries to arrest him. She won't give Angel a chance to defend himself. When Angel realises this he apologises and knocks her down, diving out of the window to escape. The demon guy is sitting on the window ledge just out of sight waiting for them to leave.

Doyle, Cordelia and Angel decide to meet at Cordelia's rather untidy apartment. She tells them off for teasing where she lives. And she tells Angel that she'll only let him in if he promises not to turn evil. Angel tells them about what happened the night before and gets them to go looking for information on Burrowers - demons that move from body to body looking for the perfect host. While they are around at Cordelia's, Kate searches Angel's apartment (illegally) and she mustn't be much of a dectective as she didn't notice the blood in Angel's fridge. The demon moves bodies again, this time back into a woman.

Angel goes bac out to hunt the demon and when he comes back the next morning he finds Cordy and Doyle asleep next to each other on the sofa. They have found a name for their Burrower - Talamar - and it is fairly invincible apart from its hatred of fire.

Angel phones Kate and asks if they can meet up. He wants to prove to her that he isn't the killer. Kate gets to the club before hand and tells the bartender to let her know when Angel shows up. A man comes over to start chatting her up but is interurpted by the bartender telling her that Angel is out the back. When they get into the back room the bartender smacks her over the head, knocking her out. Angel arrives just in time to stop Talamar moving into Kate's body and they end up fighting. The bartender manages to throw both of them down into the basement and locks them in.

He then goes back into the club to try and pull, but his blood soaked shirt and peeling skin aren't very attractive, neither is his desperation.

Angel and Kate search the basement for a way out. Angel spots a window and uses one of his 'bat tools' a grappling hook to ecape but ends up pulling the beam down instead. They do get out though and after some hunting, Angel finds the bartender in an alley tryig to transfer over into a girl. Angel saves the girl and throws Talamar into a barrel which has a fire in it. Talamar gets set alight and goes to attack Angel again. Angel also isn't very good with fire and can't get up after his fight with Talamar. It all looks very bad until Kate shows up and shoots Talamar, saving Angel.

The emergency services show up and everything is cleaned up. Angel and Kate talk. She tells him that she searched his apartment and he tells her that if she ever needs anything to give him a call. He gives her one of their calling cards which she thinks looks like a lobster.

Back at the office, Angel says that they should go out and do something, but his heart isn't in it. Cordelia and Doyle realise this and leave him to sit in the office in the dark on his own. Brooding.
