Angel's Journal - Season 1 - I Will Remember You

Season One

I Will Remember You

Cordy and Doyle are spying on Angel, on the look out for any signs of depression. He's came back from Sunnydale the night before and Cordy knows only too well what an effect Buffy has on him. Not realising he is the centre of attention, Angel is busy rolling a pencil down his uneven desk. He rumages in a draw and pulls out a stake. Cordy thinks he's going to stake himself with it and her and Doyle rush in to try and talk him out of it. Angel looks confused at their worry and explains that he's using it to level out his desk.

Cordy asks him how he's coping and he says that he's fine. Cordelia doesn't believe it and says that if she found out that her ex-lover was in town she'd be . . . upset, finishes Buffy. She's not happy that Angel didn't tell her that he was going to Sunnydale. Cordelia introduces Doyle to Buffy and they quickly make their exits, leaving Angel and Buffy to talk things through. Cordy reckons that they'll have time to watch the director's cut of Titanic and they go for a coffee.

Buffy is fumingly angry, but Angel explains that he didn't want to hurt her, Buffy is not happy with this explanation and is about to leave when an armoured, green demon with a jewel in its head smashes in through the office window. They both fight it and Angel manages to drive it off when he stabs it, getting blood on him. Buffy and Angel end up in a rather compromising situation. Buffy scrambles off him and they decide to track the demon down together.

So off they go to the stinky sewers and argue - about who's going to kill the demon their relationship, their break-up and Angel's wanting Buffy to move on. The tunnel splits in two, a ladder to the outside and some more stinky sewers. Buffy goes above ground, while Angel carries on through the sewers. The demon is still down there and trys to creep up on Angel. Angel hears a sound and spins arouns, hands up to protect himself. The demon slashes his hand open which angers Angel. Game face on, Angel makes short work of the demon, stabbing it again. But this time their blood mixes together. The demon slumps down, dead. Angel falls to his knees as a white light shines from inside his body. He collapses to the ground.

Then his hear starts to beat . . .

. . . he's alive.

Cordy and Doyle come back from their coffee to find Angel's office smashed up and a pile of dust on the floor. Cordy thinks it's Angel but realises that she forgot to sweep under the rug. Doyle alomost had a heart attack. They go back out into the reception area as Angel walks in. They don't catch on for a couple of seconds that Angel walked in through the front door. Cordy thinks that he's bought an umbrella but Doyle realises that Angel is alive.

Angel shows off his new-found humaness by standing in the sunlit window and felling very hungry. Much to Cordy's horror he starts ransacking the fridge and demanding cookie dough. Doyle does a little research on the demon Angel fought and discovers that he has regenerative blood, hence Angel's humanness. Angel demands to speak to the Powers that Be about it, but Doyle explains that they wouldn't listen to him. They will have to go to the Oracles instead.

With some help from Doyle, Angel gets access and after giving the Oracles a gift they confirm that he is human and that it's not temporary. He's released of his duty to the Powers That Be.

Buffy is walking along the seafront, lost in her own thoughts when Angel approaches her and kisses her. They go back to Angel's place and while Cordy and Doyle discuss whether they're doing the dirty or not are enjoying a very strained cup of tea. The two talk about Angel being human and their relationship. Angel wants to wait before they do anything just so they don't make any mistakes. Unable to control themselves though, Buffy and Angel end up having sex on the kitchen table and then up in bed eating food. Angel has a few problems with his human coordination and ice cream, but Buffy tells him not to worry and licks the drips of ice cream off his chest.

Doyle and Cordelia drown their sorrows at a bar, and Cordelia complains that that they're out of a job now, she doesn't really have the most promising resume: International Superstardom or helping a vampire run an investigations agency. Doyle gets a vision that the demon manges to resurrect itself and is reather cross with Angel.

Buffy is content with her life, and for the first time, feels like a normal girl. She falls asleep in Angel's arms, happy that he's not going to become grrrr again.

Doyle comes rushing back to warn Angel about the resurrected demon and suggests that they have some supernatural help - Buffy, but a newly human Angel refuses to wake up Buffy and goes out to fight them alone. Doyle reads about the demon in the book. The Maura demon has the ability of restoration and needs large amounts of salt to live. Without any super-human strengths though, Angel is beaten up badly by the demon.

Buffy wakes up and goes looking for Angel. She finds Cordelia instead whose busy organising a going out of business sale. Buffy finally manages to get Cordelia to tell her where Angel is.

Angel and the Maura demon are still fighting, Doyle no where to be seen when they fall down into an underground salt chamber. Buffy finds them and joins in on the fight, also getting a bit of a beating. The demon tells them that "the end of days" is beginning and that they and many others will die. Angel spots the jewel on the demon's forehead and remembers that destroying its "thousand eyes" can kill it. Angel tells Buffy how to kill it and she does, after the demon is destroyed Buffy goes over to Angel and cradles his head in her lap.

Angel returns to ask the Oracles about 'the end of days' and is told that as long as he is human, Buffy will die. He asks for his immortality back. It can happen only if the day is erased and only Angel holds the memories of what happened.

Angel goes back to Buffy and tells her he asked to be a vampire again. She's very upset, but Angel says it's the only way it can be. He doesn't want to be the cause of her death. He looks at the clock, and tells Buffy that they have only one minute before the day is erased. They both cry, and kiss one more time.

There's a flash, things switch back to when Buffy first showed up in Angel's office. When the demon smashes through the window, Angel kills it with little trouble, knowing to smash the jewel on its forehead. Buffy is gudgingly impressed, then she turns and leaves.
