Angel's Journal - Season 1 - Hero

Season One

Hero

Cordelia has come up with a way to drum up some more business. She showcases her commerical idea which plays on Angel's dark, broody, dark avenger-ness. Angel isn't too keen on the idea and tells her not to do it. Unpeterbed she turns to doyle, the normal guy, the be the star of her advert. He agrees to do it (because he'll do anything for Cordy) and nervously rehearses it, reading his lines off idoit cards taped to the walls of the office. It doesn't go well and he retreats back to the safety of Angel's office.

Angel is still brooding over Buffy. Doyle doesn't understand why, because she was only here for five minutes. Angel explains about the Oracles and the erasing of the day. Doyle isn't sure whether to belive it or not, but listens as Angel explains that the demon was talking about the end of days, and that it is going to take place soon.

Doyle and Cordelia are sitting on the steps outside the office, drinking coffee as Doyle tells her about Angel's lost day and keeping secrets from each other. Cordy also isn't sure whether to belive it or not, but her train of thought is interupted by Doyle having a vision, as a passerby walks past Cordy pretends that her and Doyle are playing charades. Doyle's vision conerned a group of demons hiding away from something that was going to kill them.

That night, two demons are carrying supplies when they are distrubed by the measured footfalls of a group of militatristic shadows. They hide until the danger has past and run back to the rest of their family (the people Doyle saw in his dream) Doyle and Angel investigate Doyle's vision and find said demons hiding in the hidden basement. Hiding from the Scourge. They say that Angel is the Chosen one.

Doyle tells his friend about the night a fellow Brakken demon came to him for help. he pushed the demon away and it was then he had his first vision, at the time he thought he was having a stroke. It concerned other demons of his kind. Summoning his courage he went to investigate and found them all murdered, even the little children. He tells Angel that the Scorge are pure-blood demons, who want to cleanse the earth of half-breeds like themselves. he doesn't want these innocent Lister demons to die like the Brakken demons did.

Cordelia arrives in a lorry ready to transport the demons to safety. She is told to go to the doecks, there is a boat owner there who owes Angel some money and can be persauded to take them out of the country.

Just before they are about to leave for the boat, one of the Lister demons, the boy Reef runs away, he doesn't want to stay an be killed like the rest of his family. Doyle tells Angel that he'll find him and they'll meet him at the boat.

Doyle manages to track Reef down, and Reef tells him about the only time his human mother would take him out - on Halloween. Doyle convinces him to go to the boat, to escape with his family when the Scourge happen upon them, they run for their lives the Scourge hot on their heels. Doyle and Reef hide in an abandoned building and Doyle uses himself as a diversion to draw the demons away from Reef. He is dragged into another abandoned building by Angel who has an idea. They go to the leader of the Scourge, Angel all vamped out and pretending that he's captured Doyle, in his demon guise. The leader tells Angel that vampires are the lowest of all the half breeds and Angel agrees, but he has something the pure-bloods don't. he knows how the half-breeds think and can help them track them down. To prove his fealty to the cause he breaks Doyle's neck and lets him slump to the ground, dead.

Reef finds Doyle lying on the floor seemlingly dead and is upswt, until Doyle's eyes open and he snaps his nec back into place saying that he is much stronger in his demon form. They head back to the ship.

Cordelia has managed to get all the lister demons onto the ship and is waiting anxiously for Doyle and Angel. One of the Lister demons lets slip to Cordy that Doyle is a demon. To say she is surprised is a bit of an understatement.

Angel meanwhile, dressed in a uniform like the other Scourge, is listening to a speech the Scourge leader is making. Another demon pulls forth the first mate from the ship the demons are on and betrays them. The leader uses the trecherous first mate to showcase his weapon for destryong the half-breeds - a devise that burns to death anything tainted by humanity. After the show, Angel commandeers a motorbike to try and get to the ship beofre the Scourge.

When Doyle finally arrives, Cordelia tells him they were really worried, and then slaps him for not telling her he was half-demon. She asks if he has any other dark secrets and when he says no she tells him to ask her out already. He starts to ask her out to dinner, but Angel shows up, closely followed by the Scourge. Angel tries to fight them all alone, and when he starts to fight their leader, the fight gets taken inside of the ship where Angel snaps the neck of the leader.

The other Scourge demons are unloading the weapon and are lowering it into the hull of the ship where they have trapped the Lister demons, Angel, Doyle and Cordy. The weapon is getting ready to detonate, the only way to stop it is to disconnect the cable. But all of them have human blood in them so however does it is going to kill themselves. Angel offers to go, to do his duty. But Doyle won't let him. He pushes him off the balcony onto the ground below, where he is out of danger.

Then Doyle turns to Cordelia, she realises what he's going to do and starts crying. Doyle shows her his demon face and tells her that he'll never know if this is a face she could grow to love. The tears are pouring down her face. He leans in and kisses her. When he does a little purple light passes between their mouths.

Angel desperately tries to climb up onto the balcony again, shouting Doyle's name, but he's not going to back off. He is going to show his strength. He turns into a demon and leaps onto the weapon. Cordelia crying, Angel joining her, fighting back the tears. The light burns him, changing back into a human and them melting the skin off his face. He disconnects the cable and turns into dust. He saved them.

Later, after the demons presumably are on their way, Angel and Cordelia sit together in Angel's office and watch Doyle's advert.

"Am I done?"
