Wesley and Cordelia doe some searching on this woman and discover that is is a normal human being. Her name is Vanessa Brewer, and has a very long crime record. She is also represented by Wolfram and Hart. She is currently being tried on murder. Angel comes into the back of the courtroom and throws her glasses at her, she catches them without even turning around. Angel makes a hasty getaway, but not beofre noticing that Vanessa's lawyer is Lindsey McDonald. The jury find Vanessa not guilty. After court, Lindsey is spoken to by a senoir lawyer who tells him to prepare alibi's and a history of child abuse for Vanessa ready for the next time she is caught. Lindsey doesn't like what he hears. Angel is very very annoyed. He can't believe that the jury let her off and feels helpless because the law will not bring evil to justice. Wesley tries to calm him down, but Angel is feeling rage. He is sick of Wolfram and Hart. As he says this Lindsey walks through the door into the office. He wants Angel's help. He tells him about what Vanessa is going to do, but Angel doesn't belive him, why should he? Lindsey explains that he came from a poverty stricken household and that he had to work his way up from the bottom, whereas Angel came from a merchant's family a higher class than Lindsey's. It's wanting to help the less fortunate (the children) that has provoked Lindsey to see his worst enemy. Lindsey tells Angel that there are files which can help him close down Wolfram and Hart. They plan to break into the building, but it is guarded by a demon that can sense vampires. Angel goes to Gunn to ask him for his help. Lindsey tells Angel of all the demons and security measures between the entrance to the building and the vault. Lindsey goes into work and heads down to the basement, he bumps into Lilah who is looking at some back records. She is being inquisitive but Lindsey throws her off the trail. Underneath the basement Angel (dressed in a suit again) arc-cutting his way into the basement of the building. Gunn lets himself into the foyer and starts making a disturbance. Lindsey leaves a security card for Angel and goes to the security office, distracted the guard long enough for Angel to get in. The demon alarm goes off because as Angel enters the building, Gunn brings in a vampire of his own which he lets loose to cause some trouble. Angel disposes of the demon guarding the vault and gets the disks, as he is leaving he spots a very old and ornate scroll case. As he picks it up another alarm goes off and Angel beats a hasty getaway. Mind readers are brought in to find out who was behind the break-in. Lilah, Lee and Lindsey are brought together with some other lawyers are are mind read. It transpires that Lee was trying to cut a deal with another law firm and he is shot in the back of the head. The others are allowed to leave, other than Lindsey. Angel returns to the office, the others wonder where Lindsey is. Angel says that he lawyer will find his own way out. Wesely exaimines the scroll, but Angel can't find a reason for why he took it. Cordelia loads up the disks and finds them encrypted. He senior lawyer asks why Lindsey betrayed him and the firm. Lindsey tells him that he wants out. The senior partner tells Lindsey to take some time off and think things over. Cordelia phones the only person she know who is good at hacking, Willow, and gets filled in on all the gossip in Sunnydale. (Or probably mmost of it, there was probably one thing that Willow didn't tell her otherwise Angel and Wesley wouldn't have heard the end of it) Willow talks Cordy through step by step how to hack in and the pair of them decrypt the files. They discover that Vanessa perposely took away her sight at the age of 21 and has been following an Asian religion called Nanjin which takes away reliance on sight and teachs the enhancement of other senses. Her current mission is to go after three children who are seers, they will pose a threat to Wolfram and Hart in the future. Vanessa finds the children and kills the man caring for them, Lindsey and Angel show up and Angel fights Vanessa. he quickly learns that if he is still he cannot be seen by the blind woman, and using this he manages to overpower and kill her. While Angel is busy saving the day, Wesley starts to translate the scroll and when Angel returns tells him what he has discovered. The scroll is the Prophecies of Aberjian, a long lost prophecy. Wesley thinks that Angel was drawn to it because he is mentioned. Not by name but as a vampire with a soul. He thinks it has to do with Angel's place in the world. Lindsey returns to Wolfram and Hart to talk to the senior partner. He is given a much better position within the firm and is told that if he walks out of those doors, never to come back again. The senior partner leaves. Lindsey looks around the room and walks over to the door, but instead of walking out, he closes the doors and settles himself down behind the desk of his new office. The promise of power too much for Lindsey to ignore.
